Loyola hands Delaware its fifth straight loss

Zaire Taylor scored 30 points in UD’s loss to Loyola.

11:33 a.m., Nov. 30, 2006--The University of Delaware men's basketball team has opened the season 0-5 following a 75-63 loss at Loyola College of Maryland on Wednesday night. The Fightin' Blue Hens fell behind 32-15 at the half, a gap too large to overcome despite a second half rally.

UD got a strong game from sophomore guard Zaire Taylor, who scored a career-high 30 points. Taylor also had seven rebounds and four steals. “I was happy with Zaire's shot selection tonight,” UD Head Coach Monté Ross said. “He came ready to play but unfortunately he may have been the only one. We need to try to find guys who can step up every night. We'll go back to practice tomorrow and keep working hard.”

Junior forward Herb Courtney was the only other Hen in double figures, scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

UD will return home to face the University of Vermont at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Bob Carpenter Center. The game can be heard on radio stations WRDX-FM The River 94.7 and WVUD-FM 91.3.
