Marist tops Blue Hens in men’s basketball

3:05 p.m., Nov. 15, 2006--A hot-shooting Marist College squad defeated the University of Delaware 78-62 in a men's basketball game played Tuesday night before 3,539 fans at the Bob Carpenter Center. The game was the first for new UD Head Coach Monté Ross.

Marist (1-1) connected on 54 percent of its shots from the field, drained 8 of 20 three-pointers and placed four scorers in double figures.

The Fightin' Blue Hens battled throughout the game but could not overcome a tough shooting performance that saw the Hens convert just 24 of 63 shots from the field and miss their first 17 three-point attempts.

Bright spots for the Hens were the play of junior forward Herb Courtney and freshmen Brian Johnson and Darrell Johnson. Courtney scored a career-high 27 points, pulled down four rebounds and blocked four shots. Darrell Johnson scored 18 points and point guard Brian Johnson had seven points and five assists.

UD will return to action with a game Friday at the State University of New York at Albany.
