Blue Hen golf coach announces two recruits 11:31 a.m., Nov. 30, 2006--High school golf standouts Kevin McLister and Colin Smith have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Delaware on athletic scholarship and compete for the Fightin' Blue Hens next fall, it was announced Wednesday by UD Head Coach Mike Keogh. McLister is a native of Leesburg, Va., and competes for Loudoun County High School, and Smith is a native of West Chester, Pa., and competes for the Salesianum School in Wilmington. McLister is the younger brother of current UD senior standout and three-year captain Joe McLister, and he has enjoyed an outstanding career at Loudoun County High and as a junior golfer. He captured the Loudoun County district tournament last spring with a single round score of 68 and was 16th in the Virginia State Junior Stroke Play Tournament with scores of 79, 74 and 76. He also captured the Cheers Open with a score of 70. Smith, who will become the fourth Delaware high school scholar-athlete on the roster, has also enjoyed an outstanding high school and junior career at Salesianum. A two-time All-State selection, he placed second at the Delaware High School State Championship last spring and was seventh in the state tournament as a sophomore. He has lost just one dual match during his high school career and finished second at the 2006 Delaware State Amateur. In addition, he captured the 2005 Delcastle Open, finished second at the 2006 Rehoboth Junior Open and the 2006 Big I Qualifier, finished fifth at the Optimist Qualifier, finished sixth at the 2005 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Qualifier and finished eighth at the 2006 AJGA Boston International Qualifier. |
