James Madison defeats Blue Hen football team

10:15 a.m., Nov. 6, 2006--The University of Delaware football team continues to struggle, falling 44-24 to James Madison University in an Atlantic 10 Conference game played Saturday night at Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Fightin' Blue Hens allowed James Madison 542 total yards of offense, including 331 on the ground, just one week after giving up 49 points and 627 yards to Towson University. This is the first time in the history of UD football that the Hens have allowed 500 or more yards in consecutive games and the first time since 1993 that they have given up 40 or more points in consecutive games.

UD is now 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference with just two games remaining. The Hens will try to salvage a winning record when they face the College of William & Mary at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, and Villanova University at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 18. Both games will be played at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium. William & Mary is 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference, with that win coming Saturday in a 29-28 victory over Towson University. Villanova is 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Against James Madison, which is 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the Atlantic 10, the Hens got off to a strong start, scoring on their first possession for a 7-0 lead. James Madison stormed back, however, scoring the next 27 points.

UD quarterback Joe Flacco completed 29 or 43 passes for 291 yards and one touchdown. Aaron Love caught eight passes for 120 yards and Ben Patrick caught six for 45 yards.
