Delaware football team to host William & Mary

2:47 p.m., Nov. 9, 2006--The University of Delaware football team will try to even its record when it takes on the College of William & Mary in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Tubby Raymond Field at Delaware Stadium.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the Atlantic 10, while William & Mary is 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Although William & Mary has struggled this season, it is coming off a 29-28 victory over nationally ranked Towson University, which in turn ran roughshod over the Hens in a 49-35 victory two weeks ago.

The William & Mary attack is directed by quarterback Mike Potts, a graduate of nearby Middletown High School, who completed 28 of 44 passes for a career-high 409 yards in the victory over Towson. The passing game is complemented by a strong running game that features Elijah Brooks, who has carried the ball 163 times for 858 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Against Towson, Brooks rushed for a career-high 165 yards and threw a touchdown pass.

A potent attack is not good news for a UD defense that has struggled of late, giving up 49 points and 627 total yards of offense to Towson and 44 points and 542 yards in last week's loss at James Madison University. That marked the first time in the history of the UD football program that it had given up more than 500 yards in consecutive games.

A bright spot for UD has been the play of quarterback Joe Flacco, who has completed 206 of 337 passes for 2,154 yards and 14 touchdowns. Tight end Ben Patrick and wide receiver Aaron Love have emerged as his favorite targets. Patrick has 53 catrches for 527 yards and four touchdowns and Love has 43 catches for 565 yards and four touchdowns.

UD's rushing attack has been hampered by injuries to Omar Cuff, and has had to turn to converted wide receiver Kervin Michaud and freshman Jared Bradley.

The game will be carried on radio stations WRDX-FM The River 94.7 and WVUD-FM 91.3.
