Talk on genocide in Darfur set Nov. 14

2:39 p.m., Nov. 10, 2006--Scott Anderson, war correspondent and contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, will present “With the Whole World Watching: The Genocide in Darfur,” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Mitchell Hall. A book signing will follow the free public talk.

According to an article posted on the United States Fund for Unicef's web site [www.unicefusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=duLRI8O0H&b=50755], an estimated 3.4 million people have been affected by the crisis in Darfur, including 1.3 million children who are living in 200 refugee camps as a result of the political conflict in Sudan.

Anderson, whose work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Esquire, Harper's and Outside, has written from Beirut, Northern Ireland, Chechnya, Israel, Sudan, Sarajevo, El Salvador and other war-torn areas.

Books by Anderson, who lives in upstate New York, include Triage, The 4 O'Clock Murders, The Man Who Tried To Save The World, and War Zones, co-written with his brother, Jon Lee Anderson.

The talk is sponsored by UD's Global Community Initiative [www.udel.edu/global/] and General Education Initiative [www.ugs.udel.edu/gened].
