UD cross country teams compete in New York

Christina Antonopoulos was the top finisher for the UD women’s cross country team at the ECAC championships in New York City.

10:51 a.m., Nov. 20, 2006--The University of Delaware cross country teams closed out the season on Saturday at Van Cortlandt State Park in New York City, with the men's team competing at the 98th annual Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes in America (IC4A) championships and the women's team in the 22nd annual Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.

The UD women's team finished ninth among 13 teams in the ECAC championships with 238 points while the men's team finished 13th among 15 teams in the IC4A championships with 333 points.

UD sophomore Gregg Cantwell was the top finisher for the men's team for the second time this season, as he crossed the line 47th overall in a time of 26:18.0 over the five-mile course. Also for the Hens, Kyle Schmid was 57th (26:22.78), Nick Pyle was 88th (26:51.0), Jimmy Daly was 109th (27:14.3), Kevin Kemmerle was 114th (27:19.0), Tyler Mayforth was 125th (27:41.8) and Pat Wilcox was 135th (28:17.8).

UD freshman Christina Antonopoulos was the top finisher for the women's team for the second time this season, crossing the line in 48th place in a time of 19:13.1 over the 3.1-mile course. Also for the Hens, Brooke Maguire was 53rd (9:20.6), Ioanna Antonopoulos was 61st (9:31.1), Colleen O'Brien was 77th (19:56.9), Kerrigan Smith was 92nd (20:29.2), Meghan Weaver was 95th (20:45.6), Annie Kowtuniak was 99th (20:55.5), Megan McGrath was 101st (21:16.2) and Sarah Vernon was 104th (21:42.9).

In a separate coaches' five-mile run, UD's Chris Bourke finished 12th (27:41.0), Matt O'Brian was 15th (27:47.8) and Tim Brock was 20th (28:09.7).
