Police are investigating fatal Elkton Road crash

12:51 p.m., Nov. 13, 2006--Newark Police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, at the intersection of Elkton Road and Casho Mill Road. The crash claimed the life of a 78-year-old Newark woman.

Police said the woman was driving a 1984 Mercedes northbound on Elkton Road when she turned left onto Casho Mill Road. As her car made its way into the intersection, it was struck by a 2004 Saturn Ion, which police said was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Elkton Road. The woman was transported to Christiana Hospital, where she died while in surgery. The operator of the Saturn also was transported to Christiana Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Police are searching for the operator of a second car, also believed to have been traveling southbound on Elkton Road at a high rate of speed. Police said that car is believed to be a silver Nissan 350Z with a Maryland license plate that begins with the letters TVW.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information about the silver Nissan 350Z is asked to contact Cpl. Dave Kerr of the Newark Police at (302) 366-7110, extension 107.
