Revised promotion process, career ladder for CITAs

4:48 p.m., Nov. 30, 2006--The promotion process and career ladder document for Campus IT Associates (CITAs) has been revised to more effectively meet the needs of CITAs and their supervisors.

“The CITA promotion process is no longer tied to the traditional performance appraisal period,” Chris Ulrich, manager, Human Resources, said. The process now begins Oct. 1 and concludes Feb. 22, with appeal decisions no later than March 31. This gives candidates ample time for preparation and consideration for promotion. Promotions will be effective July 1.

According to Ulrich, “for 2006 only, there will be some flexibility in the schedule.” Approved nominations forms should be submitted to Human Resources by Jan. 15.

“The CITA career ladder should enable both CITAs and supervisors to understand how a CITA needs to advance his or her skills to develop professionally,” Leila Lyons, director, IT-User Services said.

The revised Career Ladder reflects current technology and--through a grid--compares duties, responsibilities and technical qualifications at each level. To provide uniformity, the revised document includes two forms for completion: “Campus IT Associate Promotion Rationale” and “Position Description Template.”

The updated document was a collaborative effort of the current CITA Promotional Review Committee: Leila Lyons, director, Information Technologies; Gregg Silvis, assistant director for library computing systems, Library; and Chris Ulrich, manager, Human Resources. Ron Nichols, manager, IT-User Services also contributed to the revision.

The complete CITA career ladder and promotion process document can be found at [www.it.udel.edu/cita_career_ladder.htm]. For more information, contact Chris Ulrich, Human Resources, [culrich@udel.edu].
