Colonial recognizes four UD volleyball players

UD’s Kelly Gibson was selected first team All-CAA.

9:02 a.m., Nov. 21, 2006--The Colonial Athletic Association has recognized four members of the University of Delaware volleyball team, with sophomore outside hitter Kelly Gibson named first team All-CAA, junior outside hitter Colleen Walsh named second team All-CAA and freshmen Michelle LaLonde and Kelly Matthias named to the conference all-rookie team.

Gibson, the only sophomore selected first team All-CAA, finished the regular season with 464 kills, or 4.26 per game, 442 digs and 42 service aces. A native of Taos, N.M., she was a CAA all-rookie team selection last year.

Walsh, from Cleveland, had 520 kills, or 4.77 per game, and throughout the season was ranked among the leaders in that category in NCAA Division I.

LaLonde, from Wooster, Ohio, had 265 kills, 15 service aces and 93 blocks, and Matthias, from Quakertown, Pa., had 187 kills and a team-high 102 blocks.

Elizabeth Curley of Hofstra University was named the CAA player of the year and her teammate, Shellane Ogoshi, was named the setter of the year. Jena Pierson of James Madison University was named the defensive specialist of the year and her coach, Disa Garner, was named the coach of the year. Alysha Fanning of Towson University was named rookie of the year.
