UD's Byrne is selected CoSIDA All-Academic

10:11 a.m., Nov. 28, 2006--University of Delaware junior offensive tackle Mike Byrne has been named first team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District 2 All-Academic for football.

Byrne, a criminal justice major, was among 24 players selected to the first team based on their academic and athletic accomplishments. To be eligible for the team, scholar-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and be a starter or key reserve for their team. District 2 includes all NCAA Division I schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Byrne, who has a minor in psychology and carries a 3.53 cumulative grade point average, was a starter at left tackle and helped the Fightin' Blue Hens rank among the leaders in the Atlantic 10 Conference in scoring offense and passing.

He has been named to the Atlantic 10 academic honor roll twice and has been active in team community service activities, visiting local schools and youth football leagues.
