Five UD football players win Atlantic 10 honors

UD tight end Ben Patrick was named first team All-Atlantic 10.

10 a.m., Nov. 22, 2006--Five University of Delaware football players earned postseason honors as the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its all-conference teams. Fightin' Blue Hens tight end Ben Patrick and kick returner Rashaad Woodard, both seniors, were named to the first team. Junior running back Omar Cuff, junior offensive lineman Mike Byrne and sophomore wide receiver Aaron Love were named to the third team.

Patrick, who played one season for the Hens after transferring from Duke University, caught 64 passes for 639 yards and six touchdowns. He set a UD single season record for receptions by a tight end and ranked third in the conference in receptions at 5.82 per game. Woodard set a UD career record with 1,685 kickoff return yards, led the Atlantic 10 and was ranked eighth nationally with a 26.1 yard per return average.

Cuff was recognized despite missing four games and being slowed in several others with an ankle sprain. A first-team All-Atlantic 10 selection in 2005, when he earned All-America honors, Cuff ran for a team-high 541 yards and scored eight touchdowns this season. He also ranked among UD's top receivers with 31 catches for 277 yards.

Love, who earned third team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a punt returner in 2005, ranked fourth in the Atlantic 10 for both receptions and yards as he caught 58 passes for 740 yards. He also ranked fifth in the conference in punt returns with a 10.2 average. Byrne earned All-Atlantic 10 honors for the first time in his career as he anchored an offense that ranked second in the conference in passing offense (253 yards per game), fourth in scoring (26.3 points per game) and fifth in total offense (356.6 yards per game).
