UD’s Cantwell sets new mark in 3,000-meter run
Gregg Cantwell broke the school record in the 3,000-meter run at Saturday’s Delaware Open track and field meet.
9:25 a.m., May 7, 2007--University of Delaware competitors dominated the Delaware Open track and field meet held Saturday afternoon at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

The UD men's team was led by Gregg Cantwell, who set a new school record of 8:35.52 in the 3,000-meter run. That broke the previous record of 8:38.95 set by Pat Riley in 2002.

Jared Wasser won the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 7.25 inches for the Hens, while Dave Schwartz took the hammer with a throw of 153 feet, 5 inches and Tony DiUlio captured the discus with a throw of 148 feet, 7 inches. Bob Bartocci won the javelin with a throw of 154 feet, 2 inches and Matt Arbaugh took the pole vault with a leap of 14 feet, 1.25 inches.

Matt O'Brian captured the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:19.16, Craig Lebro won the 1,500-meter run in 4:18.26 and Chris Bourke took the 800-meter run in 2:06.94

Rachel Young led the UD women's team by winning the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 2.75 inches and the discus with a throw of 130 feet, 10 inches. Christina Antonopoulos took the 1,500-meter run in 4:44.14 and the 3,000-meter run in 10:49.68.

Stephanie Cronk won the javelin with a throw of 110 feet, 1 inch, while Laura Chirico took the pole vault with a leap of 11 feet, 5.75 inches. Alexi Capsouras captured the 100-meter hurdles in 14.96, Asha Quant won the 400-meter dash in 56.95 and Kellyn Wright won the 800-meter run in 2:20.19. Also, the UD 4x400-meter relay team of Cristine Marquez, Quant, Capsouras and Liz Harvin won its race in 3:52.69.
