Blue Hen softball team wins season finale 1-0
Senior Carolynn Sloat closed her UD career by hurling a 1-0 victory over Georgia State.
9:12 a.m., May 7, 2007--After dropping the first two games of a weekend Colonial Athletic Association series at Georgia State University in Atlanta, the University of Delaware softball team won the finale 1-0.

The Fightin' Blue Hens finished the season 16-26-3 overall and 7-13 in the conference.

UD dropped both ends of a hard-fought doubleheader on Saturday, losing 3-2 in 10 innings in the opener and 4-3 in the nightcap. Right fielder Katie DeSalvo, shortstop Kim Ovittore and center fielder Katie Lee had two hits each in the opener, and second baseman Allison Borchers scored both runs. UD starter Carolynn Sloat went the distance, and also worked four and one-third innings in the second game. Third baseman Michelle Plant had three hits for the Hens, and catcher Quinn Megargel drove in two runs.

Sunday's game was a pitcher's duel between Sloat and Georgia State's Ashley Cowan, as the contest remained scoreless until the top of the eighth when Plant singled home Lee with the game's only run. Sloat improved to 10-16 on the season after scattering six hits. The shutout was the 25th of Sloat's career, and she finished second all-time at UD behind only Kristi O'Connell, who fired 27 shutouts from 1997-2000.
