UD’s novice eights third in ECAC Metro rowing

8:54 a.m., May 7, 2007--The University of Delaware women's rowing team picked up one third place finish, two sixth place finishes and one seventh place finish on the way to a seventh place team finish at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Rowing Championships held Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The Fightin' Blue Hens finished third in the novice eights race, sixth in both the varsity fours and varsity eights races, and seventh in the second varsity eights racing.

The UD novice eights crew, which captured the Colonial Athletic Association title earlier this season, included coxswain Avery Griffin, Mary Grace Maggiano, Liz Cretekos, Alexx DeLorme, Jess Brooks, Regine Adrien, Brittany Hayes, Arielle Katz and Kialeen Hay. The University at Buffalo won the race, followed by Villanova University.

The varsity fours team of coxswain Callie Tegan, Betsy Seeger, Emily Canniff, Lily Chavarriaga and Catherine Hansen finished third in its heat with a time of 8:16.63 to advance to the finals, where the Hens finished sixth overall with a time of 8:36.9. Bucknell University won the race with a time of 7:35.81.

The varsity eight crew of coxswain Kenna Plangemann, Laura Beaufort, Lisa Ferrara, Elizabeth Carey, Melanie Turner, Christina Stanley, Justine Strausser, Nikki Jackowsky and Lisa Medina finished fourth in its heat with a time of 6:55.52 to advance to the petite (consolation) final. The Hens came in second in the petite final with a time of 7:14.8 for an overall sixth place finish. Villanova won the petite final with a time of 6:50.12, catching the Hens over the last 150 meters when the UD boat was damaged and lost a seat.

The second varsity eights boat finished fourth in its heat with a time of 7:18.7 to advance to the petite finals. In the petite finals, the crew of coxswain Cami Off, Katie Broullire, Lana Rivers, Jenn Boutin, Rachel Thomas, Maria Bellumori, Nicolette Lotrionte, Katie Gooding and Lynn Hamski won with a time of 7:19.22 to finish seventh overall.
