Two pedestrians report robbery Monday night

3:11 p.m., May 1, 2007--Newark Police are investigating an incident in which two men say they were robbed at gunpoint by four other men at 10:30 p.m., Monday, April 30, in the 300 block of Delaware Circle in George Read Village.

Police said the two victims, ages 30 and 28, report that they were walking along Delaware Circle when they were surrounded by the four men. One man pulled a handgun and demanded money.

The 28-year-old victim then fled and was pursued by two suspects, who ultimately gave up the chase. The suspects then assaulted the 30-year-old victim and threatened to shoot him while they searched for money. Failing to obtain any money, the suspects fled on foot towards the area of Library Avenue and East Main Street.

The 30-year-old victim suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention. A New Castle County Police Department canine unit responded to the scene to assist in the search for the suspects, however, the search was unsuccessful.

Three of the suspects were described as being in their early 20s, and two of those were about 5 feet, 9 inches tall. All three were wearing dark clothing, one with a light-colored cloth used as a mask, another with a dark winter hat and the third possibly wearing a puffy winter coat. The armed fourth suspect was 22-28, between 6 feet and 6 feet, 4 inches tall, and about 200-250 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

George Read Village is located between Main Street and Delaware Avenue, across from Newark High School.
