Relay for Life marathon set May 5-6 at UD
Last year, UD’s Relay for Life raised approximately $175,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society.
3:19 p.m., May 1, 2007--UD's sixth annual Relay for Life marathon, an all-night walking event held each spring to benefit the American Cancer Society, is set to run from 3 p.m., Saturday, May 5, through 6 a.m., Sunday, May 6, at the Delaware Field House.

Live music and dance acts, most of which are University-affiliated, will provide free entertainment throughout the night, and games, wheelbarrow rides and other activities are also planned to keep non-walkers occupied and provide respite for the lap-weary. Additionally, the luminaria ceremony of hope, a candle-lighting-and-burning ritual during which cancer survivors and nonsurvivors are acknowledged and remembered, is set to take place at 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Food and other vendors also will operate kiosks from which all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Last year, UD raised approximately $175,000 for the event. This year, the goal is to raise more than $200,000. With five days to go, the tally of UD-affiliated teams comprised mostly of students, stands at 140, with the individual head-count hovering a little above 1,100.
