Talk on Caribbean 'paradise' islands set May 14

2:17 p.m., May 10, 2007--“Afro-Antillean Constructions of 'Paradise' Islandness in Caribbean Microstates and Archipelagos,” a lecture by Carla Guerron-Montero, UD assistant professor of anthropology, is set for 12:15-1:10, Monday, May 14, in room 206 of the Trabant University Center.

Guerron-Montero will discuss the generally held perception that Caribbean islands are isolated and remote and will talk about their role in the global marketplace. She will address the “constructions of islandness in the Caribbean for tourism purposes” and will focus particularly on the Afro-Antillean experience.

Guerron-Montero's talk, the fourth and final lecture of the Black American Studies brown bag lectures for this semester, is sponsored by UD's Black American Studies program. It is free and open to the public.
