Residence Life honors student leaders

4:37 p.m., May 18, 2007--UD's Office of Residence Life recently honored student leaders across campus at the fourth annual Residence Life Student Leadership Awards ceremony. Community, citizen, and complex of the year awards were given out, along with several other honors.

The Social Program of the Year award went to “Freak Week,” sponsored by the Ray Street Complex. The Community Service Program of the Year award was given to the Gilbert Complex for “I Don't Think You're Ready For This Jelly.” Honored as the Diversity Program of the Year was “We've Come a Lingerie Baby” from the Russell, Lane and Thompson Complex.

The Complex Community Council Leader of the Year award, presented to an individual who has served on the Complex Community Council and has demonstrated leadership and commitment to the organization's goals and mission above and beyond what is typically expected, was presented to Katherine Rotunno from the Russell, Lane and Thompson Complex. Rotunno is a sophomore from Hopewell Junction, N.Y., majoring in business and economics.

The Complex Community Council of the Year Award is presented to the group that best accomplishes its stated goals. The general purpose of a complex community council is to provide leadership opportunities to residents within their residence halls. This year, the Gilbert Community Council took top honors.

The Community of the Year Award is presented to the floor or special
interest community that demonstrates significant involvement of individual members as well as significant contributions by the community to the complex or University. The residents of Lane Hall first floor were honored as the Community of the Year.

The Citizen of the Year Award, presented to a nonstaff individual, who does not hold any formal position, who has demonstrated a commitment to the community above and beyond what is typically expected of residents, was presented to Casey Rurode of the Russell, Lane and Thompson Complex. Rurode is an arts and sciences freshman from Eagleville, Pa.

The Complex of the Year Award is presented to the complex that demonstrates significant involvement by residents in leadership opportunities, programming, overall resident involvement in activities and programs, cohesion as a community and growth. This year's award went to the Russell, Lane and Thompson Complex for helping to set the stage for a new generation of student leaders at the University.
