Fraternity hosts 5K fundraiser Saturday

1:43 p.m., May 2, 2007--The brothers of Kappa Sigma fraternity are hosting the second annual “Run for Their Future,” a 5K run/walk at the James Hall Trail, at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 5, beginning at the Kappa Sigma house, 720 Academy St. The fundraiser will benefit the Collaborate Effort to Reinforce Transition Success (CERTS) Adult Action Center, a day habilitation program for young adults with severe, multiple disabilities.

Senior Chris Urban, fundraiser chair, said the money raised for CERTS will help replace the state funding CERTS participants loose when they are 21-years-old. “We are trying to break our attendance record of 200 last year and hope to raise more than $9,000,” Urban said.

Senior Matt Krane, fraternity president, said the fraternity first became involved with CERTS in 2006. “On Saturday, we hope to raise more money than we did last year and continue to positively support CERTS and their mission, as Kappa Sigma furthers its commitment to the local community,” Krane said.

“The fraternity has worked very hard to organize this fundraiser,” Richie Holland, manager of human resources and affirmative action and adviser to the fraternity, said. “They feel very strongly about the cause and hope the UD community will come out and show their support.”

Registration is $13 for students and $18 for the public. Race day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at 720 Academy St., outside the Kappa Sigma Fraternity house. The first 250 registrants will receive T-shirts and refreshments and awards will be given out at the event.
