UD will return to action at 7 p.m., Friday, with a game against the loser of this afternoon's match between Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University.
The Fightin' Blue Hens opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, as Ryan Jablonski doubled and later scored on an error. George Mason came back with a run of its own in the bottom of the third and the game remained tied 1-1 until the sixth, when the Hens broke through for four runs.
Brandon Menchaca opened the sixth with a triple and scored on a single by Alex Buchholz, who was later out at second on a fielder's choice by Bryan Hagerich. Adam Tsakonas hit a double to score Hagerich, and later came home on a single by Ryan Engelhardt. UD made it 5-1 when Scott Shockley, who had walked while pinch hitting for Danny Overcash, scored as Engelhardt got caught attempting to steal second.
Tsakonas hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 6-1 in the eighth inning.
UD's Chad Kerfoot started and worked into the ninth innings, striking out a career high 10 batters. David Slovak finished things and got his 12th save of the season.
