Employees invited to May 17 Benefits Fair
9:19 a.m., May 16, 2007--Employees are invited to attend UD's 2007 Benefits Fair being held from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Thursday, May 17, in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Trabant University Center.

Human Resources staff and representatives from Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware and more than 20 other benefit provider organizations will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about UD benefit programs and services. Vendor giveaways, food and refreshments also will be available.

UD's 2007 Benefits Open Enrollment period is scheduled for May 14- 30. During open enrollment, employees can change their benefits, check their benefit costs and confirm their enrollment for July 1 at [www.udel.edu/flexnet].

“We have great news to share with you for the upcoming plan year,” Chris Ulrich, manager in the Office of Human Resources, said. “For the second year in a row, employee premiums for health insurance will not increase, and co-pays and deductibles will remain unchanged for the 2007-08 plan year.”

A publication detailing flexible benefit options and highlights for the new fiscal year has been sent to employees through campus mail.

"We also want to call your attention to several changes to the medical plans effective July 1. Aetna will be added as an HMO carrier replacing Coventry Health Care, and the Basic Plan will undergo some changes in coverage levels and name to become First State Basic," Ulrich said.

The new First State Basic plan will offer prescription drug coverage and expanded services. It will have a $500 annual deductible for individuals and a $1,000 annual deductible for families. Services such as routine wellness visits and immunizations will be covered at 100 percent with no deductible in network. Aetna's HMO is similar in design to the Coventry Health Care HMO, although the participating provider network may vary.

During open enrollment, employees currently enrolled in the Basic Plan or Coventry Health Care HMO should make an election to one of the other medical plan options (First State Basic, BlueCare HMO, Aetna HMO or Comprehensive PPO). If no election is made, employees in the Basic plan will default to the new First State Basic Plan and those with Coventry Health Care will default to the Aetna HMO.

Both Aetna and BlueCare HMOs provide extensive lists of primary care physicians (PCP). Directions to locate a PCP as well as a health plan comparison chart are posted on the Office of Human Resources web site.

The Human Resources staff is available to help with any questions employees have about Flexible Benefits and/or open enrollment. Just call (302) 831-2171 or e-mail [ben-serv@udel.edu].
