Elizabeth F. Crook
 

May 24, 2007--Elizabeth F. Crook, 86, of Rockville, R.I., died at her home on May 8.

Born in Slatersville, R.I., Crook, an internationally known music educator and author of music textbooks, served on UD's Department of Music faculty for several years, receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award during her tenure.

After graduating from St. Xavier's Academy and Rhode Island College, Crook earned her master's degree at the American Institute of Music Education and assumed a leadership role in professional development for college-level music educators, many of whom used her textbooks published by Silver Burdett Company, Rhythm Band Inc. and Edward B. Marks Publishing Company.

Crook received many professional honors during her career, including being named an honorary member of Kappa Delta Pi, and in 1971 she was made a member of Phi Kappa Phi, an honor society recognizing excellence in one's field.

Crook's name was added to the Delaware Music Educators Association Hall of Fame upon her retirement, and in 1998 she received the Rhode Island Music Educators Meritorious Service Award. After retiring from UD, Crook returned to Rhode Island and served as a volunteer music teacher at various elementary schools.

She is survived by a brother, James H. Crook, two sisters, Sister Eleanora Crook, and Eleanor Guerin, and several nieces and nephews.
