Students raise money for pediatric cancer research
5:42 p.m., May 2, 2007--Members of the Student Association for the Education of Young Children in UD's Department of Individual and Family Studies are making and selling bracelets to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research. The Lab School has donated beads for faculty, students and staff to make bracelets in 136 Alison Hall.

The inspiration for the “Bracelets for Elizabeth” project is Elizabeth, the 2-year-old daughter of Martha Buell and Boyd Flemming, faculty members in the Department of Individual and Family Studies. Elizabeth has cancer and has been unable to attend her classes at the Laboratory Preschool.

The bracelets are being sold in the office of the Department of Individual and Family Studies in 111 Alison Hall West; the dean's office of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy (CHEP) in 106 Alison Hall West; the Office of the President in 104 Hullihen Hall; and in the Center for Disabilities Studies at 461 Wyoming Rd.

The bracelets are made out of glass beads and are $5 each. A card outlining the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act, a bill which would provide funding and support for pediatric cancer research, also is included with each purchase.

Senior Sarah Bergan, treasurer of UD’s Student Association for the Education of Young Children, and Elizabeth, 2, make a bracelet.
Cash or check will be accepted. For more information or to purchase bracelets, e-mail [Edwards@udel.edu].
