UD baseball extends win streak to 11 games

8:02 a.m., May 10, 2007--With a 5-2 victory over LaSalle University on Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia, the University of Delaware baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games.

The Fightin' Blue Hens had 12 hits, including a single, double and triple by shortstop Alex Buchholz and a single and a triple by designated hitter Adam Tsakonas. UD took the lead 3-2 with a run in the sixth when catcher Ryan Engelhardt singled home Tsakonas, who had opened the inning with a single.

The Hens sealed the win with two runs in the ninth inning, as both Buchholz and Tsakonas hit their triples. Buchholz scored on a single by left fielder Bryan Hagerich, who then scored on the triple by Tsakonas.

UD spread the work among six pitchers, with Dan Richardson (2-0) picking up the win.

The Hens are now 25-18 on the season. They will return to action with a key Colonial Athletic Association weekend series at Virginia Commonwealth University. The teams will meet at 7 p.m., Friday, May 11, at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 12, and at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 13. UD is 14-9 in the conference and holds second place, one game back of both Virginia Commonwealth and Old Dominion University.
