Delaware baseball team edges UMBC 5-4
A ninth inning double by Alex Buchholz drove home the winning run in Tuesday’s game at UMBC.
8:25 a.m., May 2, 2007--The University of Delaware baseball team defeated the host University of Maryland Baltimore County 5-4 in a nonconference game played Tuesday night.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 20-18 on the season. They will return to action with a Colonial Athletic Association series against the College of William and Mary to be played this weekend at Bob Hannah Stadium. The teams are scheduled to meet at 3 p.m., Friday, May 4, and at 1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6.

The Hens are 11-9 and in third place in the CAA, while William and Mary is 26-21 overall and 11-12 in the conference.

Against UMBC, the Hens took and early lead and then won on a ninth inning double by shortstop Alex Buchholz, which scored center fielder Brandon Menchaca.

UD first baseman Adam Tsakonas had three hits and scored a run, and third baseman Ryan Jablonski had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run. Menchaca scored twice.

Todd Ozog started for the Hens, blanking UMBC in three innings of work, and David Slovak earned the win in relief.
