Each year, the University of Delaware's College of Marine and Earth Studies publishes the Delaware Sea Grant Reporter, a lively, informative, illustrated update about its research and educational activities as a Sea Grant institution, encouraging Delawareans to become informed, become involved and stay connected through the various programs of the college.
The annual report, which contains articles on water quality, seafood safety, rip currents and horseshoe crab conservation, will be distributed to the public as an insert in the Wilmington News Journal on Tuesday, June 19. The publication also will be available online beginning that day at the web site [www.ocean.udel.edu/publications/Newsletter/reporter/Index.html].
Nancy Targett, director of the Delaware Sea Grant College Program and dean of the College of Marine and Earth Studies, introduces the report with a welcoming letter that focuses on the need to provide a better understanding of our relationship with the coast. She discusses the importance of the coastal environment, from international shipping to medicine, and from recreation to energy.
Other highlights include background information about the Sea Grant College Program and activities sponsored through the program.
The Reporter also lists upcoming activities and lectures and a web site [www.ocean.udel.edu] where readers can learn about ongoing educational programs offered by the Marine Public Education Office, located at UD's Newark campus.
