Delaware men’s soccer to open season at Duke

8:02 a.m., June 6, 2007--The University of Delaware has announced its 2007 men's soccer schedule, with the Fightin' Blue Hens set to take on eight teams that advanced to the NCAA Division I championship tournament last season.

UD will face Atlantic Coast Conference champion and NCAA quarterfinalist Duke University on Aug. 31, Patriot League champion Lehigh University on Sept. 6, Big East Conference power Rutgers University on Sept. 11 and Northeast Conference champion Monmouth University on Sept. 15. All of those games will be played on the road.

UD also will face four tournament teams from its own Colonial Athletic Association, including a match against CAA champion Hofstra University on Oct. 28 in Hempstead, N.Y. The Hens will face the other three conference tournament teams at the Delaware Mini-Stadium, with matches against George Mason University on Oct. 12, Towson University on Oct. 14 and Old Dominion University on Nov. 2.

The Hens will play a pair of preseason scrimmages, facing Manhattan College on Aug. 21 at the Delaware Mini-Stadium and traveling to Messiah College on Aug. 25.

They will open the regular season at Duke on Aug. 31 and at North Carolina State University on Sept. 1. They will then travel to Lehigh, Rutgers and Monmouth before returning home for games against Fordham University on Sept. 21 and St. Peter's College on Sept. 26.

UD will travel to Virginia Commonwealth University on Oct. 5 and to James Madison University on Oct. 7 before returning home to face George Mason and Towson. The team will travel to the University of North Carolina Wilmington on Oct. 19 and to Georgia State University on Oct. 21 before returning home to face Northeastern University on Oct. 26.

The Hens will travel to Hofstra and then will host Old Dominion on Nov. 2 and the College of William and Mary on Nov. 4. They will close the regular season at Drexel University on Nov. 8.

The CAA championship tournament will be played Nov. 13-18.

Second-year UD Head Coach Ian Hennessy will welcome back 13 letter winners and eight starters from last year's squad that went 6-8-2 and finished ninth in the CAA standings with a mark of 4-7. The six wins were the most by the Hens since the 2001 season. Top returning players include second team All-CAA forward Sobhan Tadjalli, who scored nine goals and had four assists, Matt Laudeman, who had three goals and one assist, and Paul Danaher, who had two goals and one assist.
