Junior centerfielder Brandon Menchaca was taken in the 13th round by the Cincinnati Reds and was the 409th selection overall, senior left-handed pitcher Billy Harris was taken in the 25th round (773rd overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies, senior left fielder Bryan Hagerich was taken in the 26th round (796th overall) by the Florida Marlins, senior right-handed pitcher Chad Kerfoot was taken in the 30th round (930th overall) by the Oakland Athletics and junior pitcher Mike McGuire was taken in the 46th round (1,360th overall), also by the Reds.

The five UD players drafted ties the school record established in 1992. This year's draft would have established a new record but senior left-handed pitcher Brent Gaphardt signed with the Seattle Mariners last week. After drafting him in the 21st round in 2006, Seattle retained Gaphardt's rights until 10 days prior to this year's draft because of his status as a fifth-year senior. The three pitchers drafted also ties a school record established with the draft class of 1983.

Menchaca has started in center field for the Hens in each of the last three seasons. He is second in program history and tied for the Colonial Athletic Association record with 23 triples, and ranks seventh in program history with 66 stolen bases. He has 210 hits in his three seasons, ranking him 26th in school history.

Harris emerged this season, leading the Hens with a 7-1 record and 87.2 innings pitched. He ranked third on the team with a 3.59 earned run average and struck out 98 batters, ranking among the conference and national leaders. Harris appeared in a UD record 75 games during his four years as a Hen and ranks ninth in school history with 204 strikeouts. He was named second team All-CAA and earned a spot on the conference all-tournament team.

Hagerich was one of the top power hitters in UD history with 47 home runs, second all-time to current Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Kevin Mench. Hagerich is second all-time in games played, third in at-bats and total bases, seventh in runs batted in and 15th in hits. The senior co-captain was named first team All-CAA.

Kerfoot had a record of 5-2 with a 3.24 ERA and struck out 59 batters in 75 innings this season. He finished his career with 202 strikeouts and just 61 walks. He appeared in 70 career games, which is third all-time, and he ranks 10th in school history in strikeouts.

McGuire had a record of 3-1 with a 4.26 ERA, and struck out 27 batters in 31 innings of work. The 6-foot, 7-inch right-hander made the CAA All-Tournament team after flirting with a no-hitter against top-seeded Old Dominion University.
