Blue Hen field hockey announces ’07 schedule
UD’s Casey Howard was an all-region selection in 2006.
9:50 a.m., June 5, 2007--The University of Delaware field hockey squad will face one of the most challenging schedules in school history during the 2007 season as the Fightin' Blue Hens will face five of the 16 teams that qualified for last year's NCAA championship tournament, including a home date with the defending national champion University of Maryland on Oct. 14 at Rullo Stadium.

In addition to Maryland, the Hens will also face tournament teams Ohio State University on Aug. 25 at the Buckeye Classic, the University of Richmond on Sept. 1 in Richmond, James Madison University on Sept. 21 in Harrisonburg, Va., Old Dominion University on Sept. 30 at Rullo Stadium and Duke University on Oct. 20 at Rullo Stadium. In addition, the Hens will scrimmage tournament participant American University on Aug. 18 at Rullo Stadium.

Duke advanced to the national semifinals a year ago, while Ohio State advanced to the quarterfinals. Old Dominion captured the Colonial Athletic Association title and James Madison advanced to the tournament as a CAA at-large selection. Richmond won the Atlantic 10 Conference championship.

UD will play non-conference road games against Kent State University, Longwood University and St. Joseph's University. Non-conference home games will be against Rutgers University, Bucknell University, Monmouth University and the University of Pennsylvania.

The Hens will begin their sixth season in the highly competitive CAA, facing Old Dominion, the College of William and Mary, Drexel University and Hofstra University at Rullo Stadium and James Madison, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northeastern University and Towson University on the road.

UD Head Coach Carol Miller will welcome back 12 letter winners and nine starters from last year's injury ravaged team, which finished 7-12 and advanced to the CAA tournament.

Delaware returns junior Casey Howard, who scored nine goals and was named first team All-Mid-Atlantic Region, senior back Molly Burkey, who scored seven goals, senior back Amanda Warrington and senior goalkeeper Megan Allen. Warrington, a 2004 All-America selection, and Allen missed much of last season due to injuries.
