UD’s Bernstein captures Pennsylvania golf title
UD’s Jason Bernstein has won a Pennsylvania golf championship.
7:47 a.m., June 26, 2007--University of Delaware golfer Jason Bernstein, who recently completed his freshman season with the Fightin' Blue Hens, has captured the Pennsylvania State Better-Ball Championship.

Bernstein, a native of Paoli, Pa., who plays out of White Manor Country Club in Malvern, teamed with long-time friend Alan Borowsky to claim the 18th annual title May 29-30 at Bent Creek Country Club. They shot a team score of 65 both days to come in at 12 under par, defeating runners-up Chris Gallagher and Phil Over of Penn Oaks Golf Club by one stroke. It was the first state title for Bernstein and Borowsky.

"We've been playing together since we were 6 years old," Bernstein said. "We felt we had just as good a shot as anyone coming into the tournament."

Bernstein and Borowsky, who recently graduated from Lehigh University, rallied from two strokes down after nine holes to capture the title, recording birdies on the 11th and 17th holes and a par on the 18th for the victory.

A total of 61 teams competed in the championship event. Heading into the final round, 20 teams were within three strokes of each other at the top of the leader board.

Bernstein enjoyed an outstanding freshman season at UD, finishing second on the team with a 75.83 stroke average in 24 rounds of golf and leading the squad in three tournaments. He captured the individual title at Delaware's own Scotty Duncan Memorial in October with a 36-hole total of 152 and was the team's top finisher with a 17th place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championships April 20-22 at The Homestead Golf Club in Hot Springs, Va.

Delaware, led by Head Coach Mike Keogh, finished sixth at the CAA championships and finished eighth or better as a team in each of the final eight tournaments of the season.
