Kristin Hopson
8:43 a.m., July 26, 2006--Kristin Hopson, who capped an outstanding career at the University of Notre Dame this spring, has been named a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team.

“Kristin is a perfect fit for the University of Delaware and our lacrosse team,” UD Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca said. “I am very pleased to have her join our staff. She was a great defender at Notre Dame and she will come in and help coach the defense next season.”

Hopson was a three-year starter on the defensive back and led Notre Dame to an 11-6 record and a berth in the Big East Conference championship tournament semifinals this season. She started all 17 games and recorded 19 ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In four seasons, Hopson appeared 55 career games with 45 starts and recorded 60 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. She led Notre Dame to a berth in the 2006 NCAA championship tournament semifinals. A dean's list student as a double major in sociology and psychology, she was selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association academic honor roll three times during her career.

A native of Rosemont, Pa., she was a three-sport standout at Radnor High School and earned 12 letters in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse.

UD enjoyed an outstanding season in 2007, posting an overall record of 11-6 and winning five of its final seven games of the season. The Hens, who posted a perfect home record of 9-0 at Rullo Stadium, finished third in the Colonial Athletic Association regular season standings with a record of 5-2 and reached the conference championship tournament semifinals.
