Police investigate attempted robbery

6:24 p.m., July 16, 2006--University Police are investigating an attempted robbery of two UD students that occurred around 2 a.m., Sunday, July 16, near the Colonnade between Smith and Purnell halls.

A male student and a female student were walking in the area when two young men asked them if they wanted to buy pot and if they were going to a party. The students continued to walk across Amstel Avenue and were in the park at Amstel Avenue and Orchard Road, when one of the men cocked a plastic gun, placed it on the male student's neck and demanded money. The other man grabbed the female student's shirt and pulled her backward. The male student turned and confronted the men, who fled south on Orchard Road. A vehicle approached, and the students flagged it down. No one was injured.

The suspects are described as 16 to 17 years old, with thin builds, both wearing black pants. One had a pink towel wrapped around his head, and the other was wearing a black cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact University Police at (302) 831-2222.
