Memorial service July 28 for UD student 5:36 p.m., July 26, 2006--A memorial service for UD senior Margaret Katherine Ferger, who died July 23, will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, July 28, at C.O.C.A., 524 Trinity, in St. Louis. Ms. Ferger, 21, of Webster Groves, Mo., was an art history major at the University. In 2005, she received the Arts and Humanities Scholarship, which is awarded based on academic performance to students majoring in history and art history. Lawrence Nees, professor of art history, said, "Maggie was a serious and dedicated student who was looking forward to a challenging senior year and to preparing for graduate school." Mary Ruth Warner, instructor in women's studies, said she was "mature beyond her years," adding "She was sophisticated and poised, with a brilliant mind and sharp analytical skills. She was the perfect student." "Maggie was easily the most responsible, thoughtful, mature and brilliant student I had last semester in what turned out to be a very contentious class, 'Art of the Black and African Diaspora,'" Ikem Okoye, assistant professor of art history, said. "The quality of her contributions to the class, as well as her sensitivity to the often opposing views of her peers distinguished her from others." |
