Golfer John Jenson to compete for Blue Hens

9:37 a.m., July 21, 2006--John Jenson, one of Delaware's top young golfers, will attend the University of Delaware and compete for the Fightin' Blue Hens this fall.

UD Head Coach Mike Keogh said Jenson, a resident of Newark who is a graduate of Red Lion Christian Academy, joins a freshman recruiting class that also includes Dan Rexon of Haddonfield, N.J., and Jason Bernstein of Paoli, Pa.

Jenson finished fourth at the Delaware State High School Golf Championships and earned first team All-State honors in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He posted a match play record of 36-2-1 during his high school career and was meet or tournament medalist in 46 of the 62 events in which he competed. His career nine-hole stroke average was 37.8.

In addition, Jenson finished second at the 2005 Delaware Junior Amateur Tournament and 10th at the 2005 Delaware Open, and was selected to Team Delaware for the 2005 Williamson Cup. He will compete as the state's lone qualifier at the Trusted Choice Big I National Junior Championship Tournament to be held July 31-Aug. 3 at Odessa (Texas) Country Club.
