UD’s Dixon selected to All-Academic track team

9:34 a.m., July 21, 2006--University of Delaware men's track and field standout Chris Dixon has been selected to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team.

Dixon, a hurdler and sprinter, was among 184 NCAA Division I scholar-athletes honored. To be eligible, athletes must carry a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and have met NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standards in their event. Dixon has a 3.27 grade point average as a computer engineering major.

Dixon, who will be a senior at the UD this fall, captured the 2006 Colonial Athletic Association 400-meter hurdles championship and competed at the NCAA Regionals, finishing 30th. He has collected eight career top-five finishes at the CAA championships in the hurdles, sprints and relay events and ranks No. 3 all-time at UD in both the indoor 60-meter hurdles (8.72) and outdoor 400-meter hurdles (52.73).

A Dean's List student and College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America candidate, Dixon has been named to the CAA Academic Honor Roll four times during his career and has earned the UD Certificate of Distinction. He is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and has volunteered in his community with the Landisville (Pa.) Church of God, Landisville Elementary School and the Crispus Attucks Homeless Shelter.

In spring 2006, he was named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar as selected by Diverse Issues in Higher Education magazine for the second straight year. The honor recognizes undergraduate students of color who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination.
