Newark Police charge 2 men in drug arrest 10:06 a.m., July 13, 2006--Two men have been arrested by Newark Police and charged with a variety of drug-related offenses, including trafficking in phencyclidine (PCP), following an incident late Wednesday night in the parking lot near the TGI Friday's restaurant on South College Avenue. Police said that Michael Moore, 25, of Wilmington, was charged with trafficking in PCP, possession with the intent to deliver a non-narcotic schedule I controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for keeping controlled substances, conspiracy in the second degree and driving a vehicle while under the influence of a drug Sean L. Helm, 29, of New Castle, was charged with trafficking in PCP, possession with the intent to deliver a non-narcotic schedule I controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for keeping controlled substances, conspiracy in the second degree, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. Police said two plainclothes officers were on assignment near the restaurant when, at about 11:30 p.m., they observed unusual activity involving the two men, who were in a vehicle parked in the lot. After a period of surveillance, the officers approached the vehicle, identified themselves as Newark Police officers and began to remove both men from the vehicle. The officers said Helm, a passenger in the vehicle that was driven by Moore, became violent and struck one of the officers. Both men were taken into custody and the officers observed in plain view in the vehicle a plastic bag containing about 454 grams of marijuana. During a further search of the vehicle, the officers found 26 tin foil packages containing the suspected PCP. Both men were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington. |
