UD women’s lacrosse announces ’07 captains

5 p.m., Jan. 14, 2007--The University of Delaware women's lacrosse team has named seniors Katie Muth and Stephanie McQuade co-captains for the 2007 season, according to Fightin' Blue Hens Head Coach Kim Ciarrocca.

Muth, a sport management major from Ellicott City, Md., and McQuade, a physical education major from Doylestown, Pa., will lead a team that hopes to bounce back from a 5-12 record in 2006. Muth and McQuade will be among seven full-time starters returning this spring.

Muth, a midfielder and three-year starter, was the team's fourth leading scorer in 2006 when she scored 19 goals and seven assists while picking up 33 groundballs, posting 16 draw controls, and causing 16 turnovers.

For her career, Muth has scored 45 goals while dishing out 15 assists for 60 points. In addition, she has career totals of 60 groundballs, 37 draw controls and 29 caused turnovers. She has recorded three or more goals in a game seven times during her career with a career-high four last season against the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

McQuade, an attacker and three-year letter winner, appeared in 15 games with 11 starts during the 2006 season when she played a defensive midfield role. She did not score but had 16 groundballs, seven draw controls and 16 caused turnovers.

For her career, McQuade has played in 35 games with 12 starts and recorded 11 goals, three assists, 25 groundballs, 13 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers. She scored a career-high six points on three goals and three assists during a win over Villanova University in 2005 and has recorded two or more goals in a game four times during her career.

The Hens will open the season Feb. 24 at Penn State University, with the home opener set for March 7 against Loyola College of Maryland at Rullo Stadium.
