UD women’s basketball defeats George Mason

UD senior forward Chrissy Fisher had 13 points and nine rebounds in the victory over George Mason.

9 a.m., Jan. 29, 2007--The University of Delaware women's basketball team bounced back from its first Colonial Athletic Association loss of the season with a 67-47 victory over George Mason University on Sunday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Fightin' Blue Hens carried a 36-23 lead into the half and fought off a George Mason run early in the second half before pulling away to secure the victory.

Senior guard Tyresa Smith led the Hens with 15 points and six rebounds and senior forward Chrissy Fisher had 13 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Kyle DeHaven came off the bench to add 11 points and senior point guard Alena Koshansky had six points, five assists and four steals.

With the win, the Hens improved to 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the CAA. They will return to action with a game at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Virginia Commonwealth University. UD will return home for a game at 1 p.m., Sunday, against Georgia State University at The Bob. Virginia Commonwealth is 10-9 overall and 3-6 in the conference and Georgia State is 12-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference.

James Madison University, which handed the Hens their only conference loss last week, leads the CAA with a record of 17-2 overall and 9-0 in the conference. Perennial power Old Dominion University lurks in second at 12-7 overall and 8-0 in the CAA, while the Hens have a firm grasp on third place.
