UD women’s basketball bounces past Towson

UD guard Kyle DeHaven scored 17 points in the victory over Towson.

8:54 a.m., Jan. 16, 2007--After an early battle, the University of Delaware women's basketball team went on a 27-3 run to seize control and ultimately defeat Towson University 79-45 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Sunday afternoon before 1,302 fans at the Bob Carpenter Center.

With the victory, the Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 14-2 overall and 5-0 in the CAA. Towson fell to 11-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The Hens will remain at home for a game against the College of William & Mary at 7 p.m., Thursday. William & Mary is 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference, and was on a seven-game winning streak before falling 76-51 at James Madison University on Sunday. UD will then take to the road to face Hofstra University at 1 p.m., Sunday.

In Sunday's victory over Towson, the Hens had three players in double figures. Senior guard Tyresa Smith had 20 points and six steals, junior guard Kyle DeHaven had 17 points and senior forward Chrissy Fisher had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Head Coach Tina Martin's team continues to earn national recognition, receiving 15 votes in this week's Associated Press poll.
