UD women’s basketball defeats Northeastern

Junior guard Melissa Czorniewy had 12 points in the victory over Northeastern.

9:58 a.m., Jan. 12, 2007--The University of Delaware women's basketball team won its third straight game with a 65-43 victory over Northeastern University in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Thursday night before 1,203 fans at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Fightin' Blue Hens jumped out to a 16-0 lead and held Northeastern scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game. The Hens led 35-12 at the half and never looked back.

UD improved to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in the CAA. The Hens will remain at home for a conference game against Towson University at noon, Sunday. The game will be televised by Comcast SportsNet.

In the victory over Northeastern, the Hens were led by junior guards Melissa Czorniewy, who had 12 points and four steals, and Kyle DeHaven, who had 10 points and three steals. Senior forward Chrissy Fisher had eight points and six rebounds and redshirt freshman Farah Ferguson had eight points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.

UD continues to gain in voting in the national polls, earning 19 votes in this week's Associated Press poll and 11 votes in the USA Today/ESPN poll.
