Towson sweeps Hens in CAA dual swim meet

John Ohlhaver won the 100 backstroke against Towson, recording the second best time in UD history at 53.21.

9:03 a.m., Jan. 8, 2007--Host Towson University swept the University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet held Saturday afternoon.

The Towson men's team edged UD 153-147 and the women's team defeated UD 173.5-123.5. For the UD women's team, the loss snapped an eight meet winning streak.

UD men won nine of 16 events, with Andrew Zinn capturing the 50 freestyle (21.23) and 100 freestyle (47.48). Zinn teamed with John Ohlhaver, Brad Damtoft and Adam Blomberg to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.95) and with Adam Mullan, Mark Erdosy and Blomberg to take the 200 medley relay (1:38.38).

Matt Abbruzzese also won two events for the Fightin' Blue Hens as he captured the one-meter dive (243.23 points) and three-meter dive (256.72). Erdosy won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.17), Ohlhaver won the 100 backstroke with the second best time in UD history (53.21), and Blomberg captured the 200 freestyle (1:47.60). Blomberg was also second in the 100 butterfly (53.45) and Ohlhaver was second in the 200 backstroke (1:57.49).

For the UD women's team, Michelle Stephens won the 200 individual medley (2:13.01), Emily Pretz won the three-meter diving event (203.85), Maryann Walker won the 200 backstroke (2:07.05), Kailey Pelton won the 200 butterfly (2:08.85) and Meredith Law won the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.32). Walker was also second in the 200 freestyle relay, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle, while Stephens was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:28.21).
