Service station robbery is under investigation

10:56 a.m., Jan. 8, 2007--The weekend robbery of an Exxon gas station at 820 South College Ave., near the I-95 interchange, is being investigated by the Newark Police.

Police said the incident occurred at 8:52 p.m., Saturday, when a suspect entered the store and asked a clerk for cigarettes, then demanded money from the cash register. The clerk said the suspect held his hand in his pocket, as if he had a gun, and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect fled on foot southbound on South College Avenue.

The suspect is believed to be about 17-20 years old, about 6 feet tall and between 160-180 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a zipper and dark-colored plants with two white stripes on both sides.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Newark Police at (302) 366-7110, extension 135, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
