Adult synchronized skating team takes top honors

UD’s Team Delaware Adult synchronized skating team

2:59 p.m., Jan. 22, 2007--Team Delaware Adult, of the University of Delaware Figure Skating Club (UDFSC), finished first in the Colonial Classic held Jan. 4-7, in the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass. In taking top honors in its category, the adult team successfully out-skated the Hayden adult team, Esprit De Corps, which had enjoyed a 20-year reign as the top adult synchronized team on the East Coast.

Six of the seven member teams of UDSFC competed, with four teams winning medals, including second-place honors for its masters and open adult teams, while the preliminary team finished fourth. The open juvenile and junior teams finished eight and ninth in their respective competitions.

The next competition for the club is the Eastern Sectional Championships, to be held Jan. 25-28, in Providence, R.I. Teams placing fourth or better will qualify to skate in the 2007 Synchronized Skating National Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo, from Feb. 20-25.

There are 16 skaters and one alternate on the Team Delaware Adult team and 21 members on the masters' squad. During competitions, participation is limited to 16 skaters from each group.

Team Delaware Adult has received three national medals in the last four years, and is the defending eastern sectional champion in the collegiate division.
