Towson trounces Hens in CAA men’s basketball

UD junior forward Herb Courtney had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to Towson.

8:33 a.m., Jan. 25, 2007--Host Towson University scored the first 13 points of the game and raced out to a 34-point lead in the second half, ultimately defeating the University of Delaware 85-63 in a Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball game played Wednesday night.

“We talked before the game about having a good start, but we just couldn't overcome it,” UD Head Coach Monté Ross said. “To see the way we started out is disheartening. We have to raise our basketball IQ. We have to live on our defense but sometimes when we're not having success on offense, our guys get down and lose concentration on defense. We always have to play defense no matter what.”

Junior forward Herb Courtney led the Fightin' Blue Hens with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sam McMahon had 14 points, Calvin Cannon had 10 and freshman point guard Brian Johnson had seven assists.

With the loss, UD fell to 3-17 overall and 1-8 in the CAA. The Hens will return to action at Northeastern University in a conference game to be played at 1 p.m., Saturday. UD will be return home to face Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Monday, at the Bob Carpenter Center.
