Hen men’s basketball falls to archrival Drexel

UD forward Sam McMahon scored 20 points in the loss to Drexel.

8:58 a.m., Jan. 22, 2007--The University of Delaware men's basketball team put up a struggle but ultimately succumbed to the size advantage held by Drexel University and fell 69-61 in a Colonial Athletic Association game played Saturday afternoon at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Fightin' Blue Hens kept the game close until the final four minutes of play, when Drexel extended what had been a three point lead.

The Hens got 20 points each from junior forwards Herb Courtney, who also had seven rebounds and six steals, and Sam McMahon, who also had four rebounds. Freshman point guard Brian Johnson had 10 points and Calvin Cannon had nine.

With the loss, UD fell to 3-16 overall and 1-7 in the CAA. The Hens will be on the road for a pair of games this week, taking on Towson University at 7 p.m., Wednesday, and Northeastern University at 1 p.m., Saturday.

The Hens will return home for a game against Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, at the Bob Carpenter Center.
