UD men’s basketball to face Towson tonight

Standout junior forward Herb Courtney scored 17 points and blocked five shots in the loss to Hofstra.

8:02 a.m., Jan. 8, 2007--The University of Delaware men's basketball team will face Towson University in a Colonial Athletic Association game at 7 p.m., tonight, at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Fightin' Blue Hens are 2-12 overall and 0-3 in the CAA following a 75-50 loss at Hofstra University on Saturday afternoon. Towson is 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference following an 87-81 loss at Georgia State University.

The Hens will continue conference play with a game at Old Dominion University at 7 p.m., Wednesday. They will return home to face the College of William & Mary at 7 p.m., Saturday, at The Bob.

In the loss to Hofstra, the Hens hits just 33 percent from the field and the Pride broke the game open with a 9-1 run to start the second half.

“We got some good looks in the first half that would have changed the complexion of the game, but they didn't go down,” UD Head Coach Monté Ross, whose squad hit just 7 of 27 first half shots, said. “The effort was there tonight but our shots just didn't go in. We turned the ball over six straight possessions in the second half and a team like Hofstra will certainly capitalize on that.”

UD was led by junior forward Herb Courtney, who had 17 points and six rebounds and blocked five shots. Calvin Cannon was the only other Hen in double figures with 13 points and Zaire Taylor led the team with seven rebounds.
