James Madison defeats UD in men’s basketball

Junior forward Herb Courtney led the Hens with 25 points and seven rebounds.

8:20 a.m., Jan. 4, 2007--After winning two of its last three games during the LaSalle Invitational tournament in Philadelphia, the University of Delaware men's basketball team returned to Colonial Athletic Association play with a 62-47 loss at James Madison University on Wednesday night.

“This was a major setback for us,” UD Head Coach Monté Ross said. “If we don't play with heart, passion, and desire every minute, something like this will happen. We were missing those things tonight. Give James Madison credit. They played 40 minutes and played like they were hungry. Unfortunately we took a step back after the momentum we built last week in Philadelphia.”

The sole bright spot for the Fightin' Blue Hens was the play of junior forward Herb Courtney, who led the team with 25 points and seven rebounds. He also blocked two shots and had three steals.

With the loss, the Hens fell to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the conference. They will return to action with a game at Hofstra University at 4 p.m., Saturday, and then will take on Towson University at 7 p.m., Monday, at the Bob Carpenter Center. Hofstra is 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the CAA and Towson is 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
