Police investigate home invasion in west Newark

4:16 p.m., Jan. 6, 2007--Newark Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred around 12:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 5, on Saw Mill Court in west Newark, near the intersection of Casho Mill and Barksdale roads.

A man called 911 when he heard the suspects entering his house. Two men confronted the resident on the second floor of the house with what appeared to be a shotgun or rifle. They held him at gunpoint and demanded money. He told them there was no money in the house, and the suspects fled empty handed. They were last seen going north along Barksdale Road. The resident was not injured.

The suspects are both described as 16 to 24 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, with thin builds. The man with the firearm had light brown hair, scruffy facial hair and was wearing a dark gray/charcoal colored hooded sweatshirt. The other suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a camel-colored or light brown sport coat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective J. Conover of the Newark Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (302) 366-7110, ext. 132, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
