Leave all heating units on during cold spells

5:28 p.m., Jan. 29, 2007--Because of extreme cold temperatures, Facilities advises students, faculty and staff not to turn off any heating equipment in University facilities. This includes occupied and unoccupied rooms.

If a heater is turned off, the water coil in the unit can easily freeze, causing the coil to burst, which can result in extensive water damage. Also, all operable windows should be kept in the closed position while temperatures are below freezing.

Anyone who has a problem with a heating unit or wants more information should call Facilities at (302) 831-1141 or send an e-mail to [Fixit@udel.edu].
